Faith For Your Future
Faith is living in the reality of what we hope for, believing in the things we cannot see. Hebrews 11:1 puts it this way: “Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see.” That’s what Abraham’s life teaches us. When God called him to leave his home and go to a land he had never seen, Abraham obeyed. He went without a map, without directions, only trusting God’s promise (Hebrews 11:8-12). And when he arrived, he continued to live by faith, as a foreigner in tents, confident in the city with eternal foundations that God had promised. Even Sarah, though barren and well past the age of having children, believed God’s promise. And from their obedience came a nation too numerous to count, like the stars in the sky and the sand on the seashore.
Abraham’s story didn’t start with a clean slate. He came from Terah’s family, a family with its own struggles and losses (Genesis 11:27-32). Terah began the journey toward Canaan but stopped in Haran, never fully completing the path God had for them. But God called Abraham to step out fully, leaving everything familiar behind—his country, his relatives, even his father’s household (Genesis 12:1-9). At seventy-five, Abraham took Sarai, his nephew Lot, all his wealth, his livestock, and everyone in his household and headed for Canaan. When he arrived, he worshiped God, built altars, and dedicated his life to following Him step by step.
Abraham’s journey is a guide for us:
1. Went by faith – Abraham left the known for the unknown because he trusted God’s promise, not his own understanding.
2. Lived by faith – Once he arrived, he didn’t just settle. He lived in the land, obeying and trusting God every day, even when life was uncertain.
3. Looked forward by faith – His eyes were set on the city with eternal foundations. Faith is not just for today; it’s for the future God has prepared.
4. Started a family by faith – Even when circumstances seemed impossible, Abraham and Sarah trusted God to fulfill His promises, and a whole nation came from their obedience.
Romans 8:18 reminds us, “Yet what we suffer now is nothing compared to the glory he will reveal to us later.” That’s the same for us. Our future is secure not because of what we can do, but because of what God has already promised and is faithful to fulfill. Like Abraham, we may not have step-by-step directions. We may not see the whole path. But we have the promise, and that’s enough.
Wherever you are today—stepping out, staying in the place God has called you, or waiting for a promise, choose faith. Trust God for your future. Live it out by faith. Look ahead with confidence. Your life, your family, your purpose—all of it can flourish when you stake your future on the faithfulness of God.
