PASTORS EVAN & SHINOBU CARMICHAEL

Pastor Evan and Pastor Shinobu Carmichael have devoted their lives to serving God and His people. As Pastor’s Kids themselves, they have experienced firsthand both the joys and challenges that come with church ministry, giving them a deep love and understanding of the local church.

Pastor Evan served alongside his father, Pastor Lorin Carmichael, for many years and served as the Worship Pastor at Sure Foundation Church. In 2008, Evan and Shinobu became the Senior Pastors of Sure Foundation Hilo. In 2016, Sure Foundation Hilo became what is now known as Arise Church.

Pastor Shinobu was born and raised in Tokyo, Japan. With a desire to learn English and experience life outside of Japan, she moved to Hilo to attend college. It was during her time in Hilo that she met Pastor Evan, and what began as a new chapter in her life would eventually lead to a lifetime of marriage, family, and ministry together.

Throughout their lives, Evan and Shinobu have served in many different areas of ministry. Their experience has given them a heart for people, a passion for the local church, and a desire to see others know Jesus, grow in their faith, and live out God’s purpose for their lives.

Evan and Shinobu celebrated 27 years of marriage in July 2026 and are the parents of three children, Zane, Melody, and Jaron. The Carmichaels call Hilo home and love living on the beautiful Island of Hawaiʻi.

Outside of ministry, they enjoy good food, meeting new people, spending time with family and friends, watching movies, and, of course, drinking some of the best locally grown coffee in the world.
