Burning Hearts: Living with a Fire That Won’t Quit

Easter isn’t about eggs in the yard, a fancy outfit, or a big lunch after church. Jesus didn’t die on the cross for us to play games—He died and rose again so that fire and passion could burn in our hearts, so that we could live fully surrendered to God, making a difference in this world. That’s why I challenge every single person who walks through these doors: let the fire burn today.

I called this message Burning Hearts. And if you open your Bible to Luke 24:13, you’ll see the story of two disciples walking away from Jerusalem, hearts heavy with disappointment. They had hoped Jesus was the Messiah, the one to free Israel from Rome, but His death on the cross shattered their expectations. They didn’t understand. They were hopeless. They were defeated.

And then Jesus shows up. Not in a dramatic, flashy way—but He walks with them. He listens. He asks questions. He opens their eyes through the Scriptures. He shows them that what looked like failure—the cross—was actually God’s plan. Suffering came before glory. Death came before resurrection. Their disappointment became the gateway to revelation. Their confusion became faith that moved again.

Jesus would have shown them, as He shows us today, that the Messiah’s suffering was never a contradiction. From Genesis 3:15 to Abraham and Isaac, the Passover lamb in Exodus, and the prophecies in Psalms and Isaiah, every Scripture points to the cross. The suffering was necessary. The resurrection was promised. And the victory was certain.

This isn’t just history. It’s a blueprint for life today. When your plans fall apart, when hope seems lost, when your heart is heavy and disappointment lingers, Jesus meets you in the middle of it. He opens your eyes to truth, reframes your story, and sets your heart on fire.

Don’t take artistic liberty with your story. Stop rewriting the chapters that aren’t going your way. Let Jesus finish the story. Let Him turn disappointment into revelation, hopelessness into hope, and sorrow into burning hearts that move. Because the same Jesus who walked with the disciples on the road to Emmaus is walking with you. He wants your heart on fire.
