Run Towards Your Giant, Not Away | Afe Filemoni

I just want to take a moment and honor what was shared today by Afe. That wasn’t just a message, that was something we need to carry into our everyday lives.

As he was speaking, one thought kept coming back to me. This is really about how we respond when we’re faced with something difficult.

David had a different mindset. He wasn’t focused on how big Goliath was, he was focused on how faithful God had been. And that’s where his confidence came from. God delivered him before, and he trusted that God would do it again.

A lot of us, if we’re honest, we don’t always respond like that. We tend to avoid the very things God is asking us to face. But what Afe reminded us of is simple. If you don’t identify your giant, you’ll end up living under it.

You can’t overcome something you won’t confront.

For some, that giant isn’t visible. It’s internal. It’s fear, anxiety, insecurity, maybe even things from your past that still try to speak into your present. And if we don’t deal with it, it slowly shapes how we live.

The second thing that really stood out is this. David refused to fight in Saul’s armor.

And I think that speaks to a lot of us. Sometimes we try to handle things the way we see other people do it. But your walk with God has to be your own. You can’t rely on someone else’s faith to carry you through your battles.

There has to be a personal confidence that comes from your own relationship with God.

And that leads into the last part. David remembered what God had already done. He didn’t build confidence out of nowhere. He built it from experience.

He looked back and saw the lion, the bear, and recognized that those moments weren’t random. They were preparation.

And I think that’s important for us. When you remember what God has brought you through, it changes how you face what’s in front of you.

So when the moment came, David didn’t hesitate. He moved forward.

And that’s really the heart of this message.

Whatever you’re facing right now, don’t avoid it. Don’t keep putting it off.

Run toward it.

Not because you feel ready, but because you trust who God is.
