PRAYER AND FASTING
January 5th-25th
For 21 days, January 5th-25, our goal is to strengthen our relationship with God. We believe that God will bless the rest by giving the first month of the New Year.
What is fasting all about?
Over the next 21 days, we want to make room for the Lord to fill. We do this by fasting or taking out certain foods and screens (social media/entertainment) from our daily lives. One of the keys to fasting is to keep it simple. Limit your time looking at screens. Social media and other streaming/video services can take a large portion of our attention away from hearing from God. We can also fall into the trap of thinking about food even more than when we eat a regular diet. When we set clear boundaries for ourselves, we can focus more on reading the word, praying, and engaging in worship.
FASTING GUIDE
Complete Fast
In this type of fast, you drink only liquids, typically water with light juices as an option. Consult your physician starting this fast.
Partial Fast
This fast is sometimes called the “Jewish Fast” and involves abstaining from eating any type of food in the morning and afternoon. This can either correlate to specific times of the day, such as 6:00 am to 3:00 pm, or from sunup to sundown.
Selective Fast
This type of fast involves removing certain elements from your diet. One example of a selective fast is removing meat, sweets, and bread from your diet and consuming water and juice for fluids and fruits and vegetables for food.
Soul Fast
This fast is a great option if you do not have much experience fasting food, have health issues that prevent you from fasting food, or if you wish to refocus certain areas of your life that are out of balance. For example, you might choose to stop using social media or watching television for the duration of the fast and then carefully bring that element back into your life in healthy doses at the conclusion of the fast.
